Tsunami
dead impersonation to be prevented |
|
THE Elections
Secretariat has made special arrangements to ensure a clean
election in the tsunami-hit districts.
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake said steps have
been taken to prevent impersonation of the dead and
displaced. They were in the final stages of preparing a
fresh voters list for the tsunami districts.
"I am expecting a list of the deceased and the displaced by
the end of next week," he said adding that specially marked
official ballot cards is to be issued to those suspected to
have perished in the tsunami.
If such a voter claims otherwise they will be required to
prove their identity through some sort of an identification
paper, ID or Grama Niladari certificate, to cast their vote.
Polling cards will not be issued against names of voters who
have ben confirmed dead.
The Elections Chief said they have launched a special
arrangement with the help of Grama Niladaris and the Postal
Department to distribute polling cards to the displaced. -
