A sum of Rs. 10 million was donated from the Kandy Dalada Maligawa Fund for a housing scheme to provide shelter to tsunami victims in the Matara district recently.

The cheque for the above amount was handed over to Minister of Land Development and Agriculture of the Southern Province Hemal Gunasekara by Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara in the presence of Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter and Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratanapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of Asgiriya Chapter.
Kandy District Secretary A.M.L.B. Polgolle and Matara District Secretary S.G.S. Jayasekara were also present.

Most Ven. Thibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Mahanayake Thera of Malwatte Chapter said at the presentation that another Rs. 10 million would be made available for the rehabilitation of tsunami victims from the Dalada Maligawa and Maha Vihara Funds.

In addition assistance would also be provided to restore Buddhist viharas and temples destroyed by the tsunami, the Mahanayake Thera added.
Most Ven. Udugama Sri Ratanapala Buddharakkhitha Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter said steps were taken at the very beginning to provide assistance for the tsunami victims by Maha Viharas.
