Rs. 321 m loss to VTCs

 
The vocational training for at least 1200 students which had been held back after the tsunami disaster will be conducted temporally at alternative vocational training institutions, said Skills Development, Vocational and Technical Education Minister Piyasena Gamage.
Minister Gamage told the "Sunday Observer" that 15 Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the Southern and Eastern coastal districts were damaged due to the disaster and according to statistics the estimated cost of equipment and buildings damaged exceeds Rs. 321.4 million.

The Ministry statistics have revealed that eight vocational training centres at Kottegoda, Weligama, Matara, Pettigalawatta, Ambalangoda, Ahangama and Galle in the Southern Province and seven centres at Karathive, Kalmunai, Potuvil, Akkaraipattu, Kalavanchikudy and Mullaitivu in the Northern Province were damaged.
"The reconstruction of the devastated vocational training centres will start in February and our aim is to recommence the studies at the same locations as early as possible," he said.
