Akkaraipattu
- Komari, on the Eastern coast of Ampara is completely
destroyed by the tsunamis which had wiped off the ancient
village and those who escaped from the swallowing waves are
housed in two different locations without food, clothing and
medicine.
The employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board attached to
the Akkaraipattu Depot of the New Eastern Bus Company are
the most affected among the workers.
Their wages which ought
to have been paid on December 25, 2004 are yet to be paid.
They could not even get a salary advance.
They have no water, food and toilet facilities. The depot
that should operate 22 buses is left with only five buses
and 151 workers.
The other villages that suffered a total extinction by
the tsunami are Umiriya, Vinayagpuram, Tampatti,
Sinnamuhathuwaram, The Fishermen's Colony at Thambiluvil,
Tirukovil and Gurukula-Puram Tambiluvil. Four died at the
Hambiluvil Boys' Orphanage while the entire population in
the Fishermen's Colony perished. The most urgent need of the
displaced is the need for pure drinking water and medical
facilities.
