Komari, Several Other Villages Destroyed After Tsunami

 

Akkaraipattu - Komari, on the Eastern coast of Ampara is completely destroyed.

Akkaraipattu - Komari, on the Eastern coast of Ampara is completely destroyed by the tsunamis which had wiped off the ancient village and those who escaped from the swallowing waves are housed in two different locations without food, clothing and medicine.
The employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board attached to the Akkaraipattu Depot of the New Eastern Bus Company are the most affected among the workers.

Their wages which ought to have been paid on December 25, 2004 are yet to be paid. They could not even get a salary advance.
They have no water, food and toilet facilities. The depot that should operate 22 buses is left with only five buses and 151 workers.

 The other villages that suffered a total extinction by the tsunami are Umiriya, Vinayagpuram, Tampatti, Sinnamuhathuwaram, The Fishermen's Colony at Thambiluvil, Tirukovil and Gurukula-Puram Tambiluvil. Four died at the Hambiluvil Boys' Orphanage while the entire population in the Fishermen's Colony perished. The most urgent need of the displaced is the need for pure drinking water and medical facilities.
