Scholarship
funds for
tsunami children |

THE Tree Foundation, a
charity organisation in England recently launched its
awarding of scholarship funds to 100 students affected by
the tsunami.
The ceremony was held at the BMICH with the participation of
its co-founder and trustee, Sacha Zackariya.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prof. Wiswa Warnapala, chief
guest said Sri Lanka children are better adapted to various
situations in comparison to those of many other countries
and they should be facilitated more with their education.
Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana hoped the foundation
would provide shade to the children.
Country Director Dr. M. M. M. Yehiya, said their objective
was to uplift the standards of deserving poor students of
all ethnic groups in Sri Lanka.
Each child will receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 2,000 and
an annual grant of school uniform materials and utensils
worth Rs. 6,000 under this scheme.
This foundation has been operating in Sri Lanka for the past
10 years with special concentration on educating
impoverished children. |
