UAE donates
US$ 500,000 for tsunami victims |
|
United Arab Emirates has donated a sum of US$ 500,000 to Sri
Lanka to purchase medical and relief aid to be distributed
among the tsunami victims. This aid will be distributed
through the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society in Colombo.

Mohammed Abdullah Alhaj Al Zaroni, said they have already
dispatched 150 tonnes of food items that include milk, dry
foods and other relief goods apart from the monetary
donation.
He said, reliefs were sent to Sri Lanka on three flights a
week and each flight carries 10-30 tonnes of relief goods.
"Already we have given 15-20 tonnes to Galle and 40-45
tonnes to North-East area", he said.
Al Zaroni said they were ready to provide free telephone
calls and free air tickets to any Sri Lankan who lived in
UAE if their relatives or family members had been affected
in this tragedy.
"We came to Sri Lanka not only to give relief but also to
help the people." In Sri Lanka we saw the huge damage caused
by tsunami. We hope to give more funds and relief to the Sri
Lankan people." he added. He also disclosed that they were
planning to provide further assistance to the Sri Lankan
