NZ tour operators offer 'help holidays' in Lanka

A New Zealand tour operator wants to help Sri Lanka rebuild from the devastation of last month's tsunami by offering a holiday combining sightseeing with aid work. The tour, due to leave on January 20, includes five days of sightseeing and a minimum of four days rebuilding a fishing village, most likely Paiyagala.
World Discovery Tours Managing Director, Stephen Greenfield, said the venture was a practical way to help people. "Many would like to do more than just pour funds into a great pot with no real control or knowledge of where it goes," he said.
Greenfield said the trip was being done at cost with reduced airfares, hotels dropping their prices and travel agents in New Zealand and Sri Lanka doing the organization for nothing.
The Sri Lankan Navy would provide transport and equipment while the group worked on the project. - AFP
