Interpol provides sophisticated equipment for Tsunami hit areas

 
Secretary-General of the International Police (Interpol), Ronald K. Noble yesterday agreed to supply highly sophisticated communication equipment including Walkie-Talkies to the Sri Lankan Police to use in the Tsunami affected areas in order to trace and obtain all relevant information about the missing and dead foreigners in the tragedy.

This was revealed by the Interpol Secretary General at a press conference held at the Police Headquarters yesterday morning.
IGP Chandra Fernando, Senior DIG Bodhi Liyanage, CID DIG Lionel Gunatilleke, DIGs Jayantha Wickremeratne, Sirisena Herath, Kumarasiri Gamage, Mahinda Balasuriya, Victor Perera and CID Director Senior SP Sisira Mendis also present at the press conference.

Interpol Chief Communication and Publications Officer Michael Rose was also present at the conference. "We like to walk shoulder to shoulder with the Sri Lanka Police in all rescue missions to gather information about the affected foreigners during the tsunami and expedite the handing over the bodies to their close relatives as early as possible using the modern technology," the Interpol Secretary General added.

Noble who visited the affected areas in the South on Tuesday with a CID team assisted by its Director Senior SP Sisira Mendis said that the Police in the South are working to assist the local and foreign families affected by the tragedy.
The Interpol Secretary General emphasized that the Sri Lanka Police are doing an excellent job to dispatch the bodies found in the Southern areas to their close relatives and obtaining the maximum information about the foreigners who are missing after the tragedy.
 
 
 
   The local police have collected all information including passports, identity cards, fingerprints, DNA tests, Dental identity and photographs of foreign nationals who are affected to supply more information to the families of the dead and missing foreign nationals. This is an excellent job carried out by the local police, Noble said.
The Interpol Secretary General addressing IGP Chandra Fernando at the press conference said that "If you need more assistance let us know, we are ready to help you."

IGP Chandra Fernando thanked the Interpol Secretary General Ronald Noble for his assistance to the Sri Lanka Police when the country is facing a disaster situation.
'We could not value the assistance given by the Interpol Secretary General by supplying modern communication equipment to the Sri Lanka Police to carry out their mission smoothly in this situation, the IGP said.
