Norway Pledges One Billion Kroner for Re-Construction

 
The Norwegian Parliament has approved one (1) billion Norwegian Kroner (150 US$ million) to the tsunami hit countries in the Asian region, especially for Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The Norwegian Parliament Approved this fund last Tuesday said Morren Hogland, Progress Party MP, Norwegian Parliament, and the head of the Norwegian MPs delegation.

Addressing the media at Eva Hotel, Tangalle yesterday, Hogland said that although tsunami hit Sri Lanka very badly the country is achieving normality very fast. The cleaning process is completing and the re-building process has already started.
The Norwegian MPs visited Mawella and Rekawa and inspected damaged schools and houses. They distributed school supplies to the affected children. The delegation also visited Hambantota District Secretariat and met local officials and MPs.

They met Urban Development and Water Supply Deputy Minister Mahinda Amaraweera and Plantation Industries Deputy Minister Chamal Rajapaksa during their tour, visited houses re-constructed by Plan Sri Lanka.
Out of the total Plan Sri Lanka relief and re-construction budget of US$ 11 million, the Norwegian Government is contributing US$ 2 million.

The Norwegian MPs, Ms. Julie Christansen, Conservative Party MP, Norwegian Parliament, Bjorn Jacosen, Socialist Left Party MP, and Morren Hogland, Progressive Party MP are on an informal visit to Sri Lanka. Plan Sri Lanka is one of the four International Non-Governmental Organisations identified by the government to obtain assistance for the new townships in the Hambantota district. Plan Sri Lanka is one of the four International Non-Governmental Organisations identified by the government to obtain assistance for the new townships in the Hambantota district.The Government has assigned Plan Sri Lanka the Tangalle Divisional Secretariat Division for the re-construction work. The Plan has committed to build 1,103 houses and re-build five schools out of six in Tangalle.

Sixteen countries including Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, The Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, UK and USA fund Plan Sri Lanka's relief and re-construction budget.
Plan is an International child centred development organization working in 60 countries. Most of the funds for Plan's community projects come from individual sponsors.
