TELWATTE: The Post-Master General and the Postal
Superintendent (Southern) Province, Galle have neglected to
arrange postal delivery facilities for Galagodawatta tsunami
housing scheme in Ambalangoda division.
Thousands of tsunami displaced families who were living in
coastal areas are now living in beneficiary houses since
August 2005.
According to those families they are facing inconveniences
without postal facilities. As such they are compelled to
travel to their former villages to collect letters. When the
Daily News inquired about this situation from the sub-post
master, Kuleegoda, Ambalangoda, he said that the authorities
concerned have not given any instructions to him to deliver
letters to Galagodawatta situated about three miles away
from Kuleegoda. He further said if permission is granted by
the higher authorities for letter deliveries to
Galagodawatta tsunami housing scheme it could be arranged.
Thousands of tsunami displaced people have requested a new
sub-post office for Galagodawatta to enable them to get
postal facilities conveniently.
