Housing
projects for Hambantota tsunami victims |

A
large number of government and Non Government Organisations
have agreed to reconstruct houses devastated by tsunami
catastrophe in the Hambantota District. The number of houses
to be reconstructed is 6,223.
Agreements for this massive construction project were signed
on Sunday at the Vihara Maha Devi Women's Resources Center,
Mirijjawila, Hambantota, the Prime Minister's Office said.
The first agreement was signed between Prime Minister
Mahinda Rajapakse and Chief Minister Maheepala Herath for
100 houses pledged to be constructed by the Sabaragamuwa
Provincial Council.
Others to follow were the Land International Institute,
Urban Development Authority, District Secretariats, Red
Cross Society, Construction Societies, Artists' Circles,
Provincial Councils, and several Government and Non
Government Organisations.
Houses devastated were within Hambantota city limits but
will be replaced with the proposed housing project, in a 500
acre land at Kajuwatta Grime Niladari Wasama three km away
from the town.
The houses will be constructed keeping with the, Government
approved standard. The Prime Minister thanked all who
contributed for the well-being of tsunami victims and
pledged further redress in the future.Deputy Minister Chamal
Rajapakse, Chief Ministers Mahipala Herath and Nihal
Galappaththi, Provincial Council Ministers, Deputy
Ministers, Government Agents, state officials and Non
Government representatives also participated. |
