Govt. will
rebuild Sri Lanka with support of all - PM |

The government will do its best to rebuild the lives of the
people affected by the tsunami tidal waves with the support
and co-operation of all political parties and community
groups, said Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse when he
participated in several programs to rebuild the lives of the
tsunami victims in Kalmunai Karthiv and Maradamunai areas in
the Ampara district on January 20.
These programs which also coincided with the first
anniversary of the formation of the United People's Freedom
Alliance included the laying of foundation stores for new
housing schemes under the house rebuilding program launched
on the initiative of Minister Mrs. Ferial Ashraff,
shramadana campaigns to clear post-tsunami debris,
distribution of relief goods and attending to peoples
immediate programs.
These
programmes launched under the patronage of Prime Minister
Mahinda Rajapakse were attended by SLFP General Secretary
Minister Maithripala Sirisena, JVP General Secretary Tilvin
Silva, UPFA General Secretary Minister Susil Premajayantha,
Ministers Ferial Ashraff, Dinesh Gunawardene, Nimal Siripala
de Silva, K. D. Lal Kantha, Deputy
Ministers Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Bimal Ratnayake, Sunil
Handunnethi, Deputy Speaker Geethanjana Gunawardena, JVP
Publicity Secretary Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa,
regional politicians belonging to the parties constituting
the UPFA and officials of politicians representing the UPFA
who spole at these events said the country today faced
challenges much bigger than those faced at the time the UPFA
was formed.
They stressed the need to work in unison to overcome these
challenges and promised their sustained commitment to
overcome them by achieving the desired objectives and goals.
The Prime Minister said the lives lost in the recent
disaster could not be brought back. But everything within
their means would be done to rebuild the lives of the
affected people and bring them back on their feet once again |
